Siobhán fasted for (nearly) 3 days in solidarity with Climate Justice Fast!  She will also be attending the overnight candlelight vigil with other fasters, to be held in Canberra on the 18th December to mark the end of Copenhagen.

"Having lived in the North East of England and seen the devastation caused by the more frequent flooding, and now living and working within the Murray-Darling Basin where we are suffering extreme water shortages, I have seen the effects of a changing climate.  I am deeply concerned about the effects these changes will have on humanity.  I cannot, or do not want to, imagine a world with mass desertification, no Barrier Reef, mass extinction of species, food and water shortages, climate refugees and wars. I still have faith that we can do what is needed to prevent the worst of these disasters from happening.

Climate Justice Fast! is an amazing statement when so much has been said already - what more can be said?  Their silence speaks so loudly.

I've learnt that a hunger strike stirs people in such different ways: it is emotive and contentious, somewhat unfathomable and, I believe, makes people think differently about the issue at hand.  And to see people willing to do this, willing to peacefully protest, to deny themselves of the sustenance and pleasure we gather from food, for such a long period of time; to see them make this statement for all of our futures, is humbling.

Being in Canberra and being a part of Climate Action Canberra, I have been offering my support any way I can to the fasters that have traveled to our nation's capital for the strike.  Being surrounded by such dedicated people has been so inspiring, and I thank them for their actions.

I hope with all my heart that we can solve this problem before it's too late.
